7 Years Later….

Wow, I can’t believe its been 7 years since I last posted something. Now this wasnt down to choice more life getting in the way.

From family, kids , work and all the bits in between from moves to hardships and of course lockdown. But let’s not dwell, revisit the past, or linger in things past.

So why am I suddenly posting out of the blue, eventhough in all likelihood I’ve lost the following i had and the friends who tended to visit my pages for a quick update on how fatherhood was progressing as well as my quest on publishing a book!

Well the kids are well, and growing up. I still can’t believe how fast its all happened, you know I often heard it from the older generation and my parents ‘within a blink of an eye, they’ll be grown, and wanting their own space ‘. Now I always thought, this would happen but my kner monologue always chided me with ‘pah! I have years in the bank what’re you taking about, they’re tiny, and they’ll need me forever…’

But.. I blinked… and they’re teens. No longer wanting to spend time with their amazing, cool, down to earth and hip father. They have work to do, jobs to uphold, school and college work to complete… which is all well and amazing of course, but I do miss the days when they looked up at me, asking me to feed them a snack a yoghurt or just wanting to play. Breaks my heart a little.

But hey, dynamics change and life plays out as its meant to. I’m proud of what they’re becoming and what they’ve achieved. They’re amazing individuals both a little different in their own way.

So thats the family aspect, but where am I with the whole writing aspect. Well after a number of long years of stopping and starting, I’ve finally… managed to complete and self publish a novel. And I have to say it feels good, it was one of the things on my bucket list I so wanted to tick off, and an aspiration of mine to call myself a ‘published author’.

I started so many small projects, but often flitted between them all , but finally in the last year knuckled down. Got an amazing editor on board, got my head down, and finished one of my stories. As easy as it sounds writing the last bit, there was so much painstaking effort and discipline involved. Some days after a days worth of writing I had to bin the vast majority of it, some days it was just a day of writes block. Did it come easy and naturally to me? Hell no, it was a difficult thing to do.

But my editor pushed me , providing brutally honest feedback of what worked and what was utter tripe ! Which sounds a bit harsh, but was exactly what I needed to push on and actually finish and put in the work. And finally allow me to publish. So thank you Essence Agency for always having my back as well as providing me with the motivation I needed in order to finish my book.

Now I won’t reveal much about the book but I will leave the synopsis for your reading pleasure …

Cade Hunter is a has-been. A once shining star of Hollywood, he now festers in his multi-million dollar home with only his cleaner and his long-time agent/come friend, Andy, to care about his demise, his booze and substance abuse.
In a last attempt to get him clean and reinvigorate his once lucrative career, Andy checks him in to an exclusive rehab centre where only the rich and famous can get a pass.

Soon after arriving Cade starts to feel a menacing presence observing his every move. His past starts to come back to haunt him and Cade starts to question his very existence. Behind the expensive marble facade, is everything truly as it seems at The Ivy or should Cade run for the hills and save himself?

I really hope, this motivates someone out there to go out, finish their novel or even start one. There are so many resources out there, which aid your writing style, motivation as well as amazing editors. I personally self published a digital copy on Amazon. And maybe ill reach out to some publishers for the hard back version.. watch this space. Happy to answer any questions you may have, just leave a commentary ill reach out.

Its available here:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BRQJKZKB?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_dp_RY9RKFAZSXWPKY23A68V

For those that get the opportunity to read the book, I hope you enjoy it. I have started my next book, so maybe ill see you in another 7 years (I promise it’ll be sooner than that!)

Thanks for reading, as ever wishing you health , wealth and happiness.

Chapter 11

EXT.IN THE CAR

VALI is driving, his phone rings looking at the caller ID he

frowns and answers it while he is driving. [Following

conversation takes place in a mix of english and Gujarati]

VALI PATEL

Yes mum..

RABIA PATEL

VALI…

VALI PATEL

Yeah mum I’m here !

RABIA PATEL

Mrs Musa called me…

VALI PATEL

Great… what did she say…

RABIA PATEL

They really liked you son

VALI a little taken aback

VALI PATEL

Who liked me.. what?

RABIA PATEL

Their daughter SHEREEN, she wants

to see you again

VALI PATEL

Mum.. i think you’ve probably got

the wrong end of the stick

RABIA PATEL

No son, they specifically said they

really liked you, she really liked

you

VALI PATEL

Mum, shes not my type.

RABIA sounding a little disheartened

RABIA PATEL

Why?

VALI PATEL

She wont mix well with us..

RABIA PATEL

I’ll make her mix well

VALI PATEL

Mum look …

RABIA PATEL

Talk to your father

VALI PATEL

[mutters under breath] Ahh shit..

YUSUF PATEL

VALI son, look theyre a nice

family, shes a nice girl

VALI PATEL

Dad, shes not my type i don’t want

to see her

YUSUF PATEL

You’ve met her the once ! meet her

again

VALI PATEL

No dad!

YUSUF PATEL

Stop being awkward!

RABIA snatches the phone off YUSUF as he starts to raise his

voice

RABIA PATEL

VALI son, look theyre a nice

Islamic family..

VALI PATEL

Mum, shes not my type, shes fat and

she has an attitude! imagine the

way she’ll talk to you and about

you if she had the audacity to talk

down to me while i was there !

YUSUF shouts in the background

YUSUF PATEL

Tell him to stop making excuses!!

VALI shouts in anger

VALI PATEL

Mum ! tell them no!!

Cuts the call and tosses the phone aside, as he pulls up at

the unit

(back to where we started)

VALI’s car pulls up, ASIF stands from his restful pose no

longer using the bat as a crutch as to which to lean on.

VALI gets out the car, slams the door. Tosses his jacket

aside, grabs the bat off ASIF, we hear a mumbling of pleas

from the person in the chair, VALI begins to pummel his leg

without saying a word. until he hears a snap, a loud muffle

scream escapes the victim in the chair.

VALI throws the bat aside and walks back towards his car.

Opening his boot he rifles though it, and finds a Stanley

knife. Standing before DANNY he exposes the blade, the fire

reflecting and dancing off the metallic sharp edge

RIZ and ASIF watch silently, the muffled screams of DANNY

get louder, tears rolling down his face

VALI makes a small incision on his cheek, DANNY releases a

muffled scream

ASIF TABAT

VAL…

VALI PATEL

Shut the fuck up..

VALI stops and looks at DANNY, he makes another larger cut

on his other cheek Just deep enough to scar

VALI PATEL

Now.. DANNY is it? this is whats

going to happen. I’m going to

remove this gag from your mouth.

When i do , you’re not going to

scream or cry or plead, all i want

is the name of the person who gave

them to you to deal. If you tell me

his name i will let you live, if

you don’t.. I’m going to peel your

VALI PATEL (cont’d)

face off with this here knife but

this time I’m going to heat the

blade up a little.. you know.. just

for kicks..Do you hear me DANNY

DANNY nods profusely

VALI PATEL

All i want to hear is the name..

its as easy as that DANNY.. you

ready.. ?

VALI slowly peels off the tape, DANNY labors for breath

splutters and spits out a sizeable amount of blood

DANNY

L….LEE … LEE DRIVER..

VALI looks back at RIZ

RIZ AHMED

LARRY’s boy..

VALI PATEL

Motherfucker..

VALI grabs the tape and puts it back onto his mouth, trying

to keep DANNY’s head still as he applies it

VALI PATEL

You’ve made a few mistakes today

DANNY some small and some big ones

that will ultimately change your

life! The first mistake you made

DANNY was the fact that you were

dealing on my turf.. But your

biggest mistake was dealing to my

brother, and that i don’t take too

kindly too…

VALI looks over at RIZ, instructs RIZ so DANNy hears every

word

VALI PATEL

Break his arms and legs, and dump

him outside the hospital..

VALI walks towards ASIF, as RIZ starts swinging his golf

club

.

VALI PATEL

ASIF, get DAWOOD on the phone..

tell him to arrange a meet, we need

to set a few things straight

VALI pulls out a cigarette, lights it on the drum and

inhales as the camera pans out to the sound of dull thudding

as metal meets flesh and bone..

EXT.THE CEMETERY

VALI pulls up in the car park and walks to the the adjacent

cemetery, he seearches for a particular grave. Stands before

it says a little prayer and walks on, to the other side of

the graveyard. He sees a figure, leaning on a wooden clad

barrier.

As he approaches, the figure stands and they both embrace. A

hearty embrace, patting each other on the back

(the following exchange that takes place with VALI,

individual’s background nor name is mentioned)

VALI PATEL

How goes it!

ZAK

Not too bad .. you?

VALI PATEL

Ahh been one of those weeks! The

day ive had, fucking hell.. kill me

now

ZAK

Is that in regards to business or

pleasure?

VALI PATEL

All the above! Having problems with

mo…

ZAK

MO? Your Muhammad?

VALI PATEL

Yeah, hes been taking pills. Took a

few too many and now hes in

hospital

ZAK looks a little taken aback

VALI PATEL

Don’t worry hes fine, theyve kept

him in

ZAK

Any idea where he got them from?

VALI PATEL

On fucking college campus, can you

believe it!

ZAK

Any idea who hes working for?

VALI PATEL

Not yet.. but i will by tonight

ZAK

Go easy, nothing stupid..

VALI PATEL

Yeah yeah.. I’m just so fucking

disappointed! I thought he was

better than that, looks like I’m

going to have to keep a closer eye

on him! Just what i fucking need !

VALI digs into his pockets pulling out a cigarette and

lights it

ZAK

I’m serious … i know how you get

with family, and i thought you

quit!

VALI PATEL

Last one…

ZAK

Yeah! [Laughs] I’m sure….this

dealing of pills is a bit of a

worry.

VALI PATEL

Yeah, bets are its Larry and his

bunch of fucks.

ZAK

Hmm maybe, the pakis aren’t ones to

adhere to rules either

VALI PATEL

Well.. an example is going to be

set, along with another meet

ZAK

Well that’s what i would do, but

expect some push back on the

dealing

VALI PATEL

As long as they stick to their own

areas, their own turf i dint give a

fuck what they do.

ZAK

So what’re you gonna do? If they

encroach on your turf?

VALI smokes silently, thinking..

ZAK

Whatever you decide to do, make it

clear at the meet. so there’s no

confusion and this example you’re

going to set, with this dealer..

make it a meaningful one. Remember

any sign of weakness…

VALI smokes and nods.

VALI PATEL

.. can result in blood.. i know.

They fall silent for a few moments, VALI finishing off his

cigarette

VALI PATEL

I went to see Ibrahim Musa’s

daughter today

ZAK

[laughs]Tea Party?! How did that

go?

VALI PATEL

Ah you know.. the usual, another

pretentious idiot. Demanding a man

with a bank balance, spouting off

about how she wants to be oh so

independent but wants to be looked

after!

ZAK

[laughs] Poor girl! I’m sure you

gave her a little talk

VALI PATEL

Too fucking right i did, by the end

of it she was on the verge of tears

and a new found respect for the

dominance of VALI PATEL

ZAK

You’re such a dick [laughs]

VALI PATEL

I did her a favor, i mean you

shouldve seen her. Pretentious,

arrogant like she was better than

me because she thought i worked at

the newsagents…she was shaped

like a Fucking christmas tree for gods

sake!

Both laugh as VALI pulls out another cigarette

ZAK

Well at least you put her off. So

who are you seeing nowadays ive

lost track

VALI PATEL

Well there’s Aaliyah..

ZAK

You still seeing her.. i thought

that was off?

VALI PATEL

Well its on and off, still the

usual story. She wants to get

hitched, but I’m Indian shes paki

blah blah

ZAK

Ahh and youre ready to settle

VALI PATEL

Fuck that! Last thing i want is to

be tied down, you know that! Only

reason i go to these tea parties is

to get my parents off mt case!

ZAK

You still seeing that white girl?

VALI PATEL

LISA? yeah.. shes nagging me a

little too much now, and I’m

starting to think she has major

anger issues

ZAK

[Laughs] well you sure know how to

pick em, you know for a captain and

the head of the three groups. Your

quite the diverse individual.. get

you a nice Indian bride from back

home and I’ll present you with a

certificate of achievement !

VALI laughs and punches ZAK in the arm playfully

VALI PATEL

Shut up you ass hole!

VALI looks at the watch noticing how dark it seems to be

getting

VALI PATEL

Fuck i need to go, ill let you know

how i get on. Same time next week?

ZAK

Yeah.. remember what i said.

Both embrace shake hands and part ways

INT.THE MISTRESS’ HOME

VAL and LISA are in bed, naked, the duvet barely covering

VALI PATEL

Now i thought you were an atheist?

There was a lot of ’Oh gods’ in

LISA hits him as VALI draws her close

VALI PATEL

So.. how’ve you been

Will you stop..

VALI kisses her, as she tries to sit up

That’s your answer to everything..

VALI laughs

VALI PATEL

And i promise, i will.. now ive

VAL leans over the bed grabbing his jeans from the floor,

removing a small jewelery box from his pocket.

He hands the small box to LISA, excited she grabs the box

from his hands

LISA FISHER

Oh you shouldn’t have..

She opens the box slowly, removing a sterling silver pearl

necklace. LISA squeals in delight, handing it to VALI

LISA FISHER

Put it on…

VALI puts it on her, before she skips out of bed and starts

looking at it in the mirror.

VALI PATEL

You like?

LISA FISHER

Its beautiful..

VALI PATEL

Did i hear a thank you?

She jumps on top of him, straddling him

LISA FISHER

Il say thank you the best way i

As she kisses him, VALI’s phone goes off.

LISA FISHER

VALI reaches for his phone on the bedside cabinet, he

answers it as LISA gets off of him

VALI PATEL

Yeah.. you got him? Good.. I’ll be

VALI puts the phone down and scrolls through his messages.

He sees a text he has received stating ’3pm usual place’

to dress himself. Further enraging LISA

LISA FISHER

VALI PATEL

Calm down! look we will talk about

LISA begins to throw pillows and anything she can get her

hands on at VALI

VALi trying to deflect the objects, trying to address LISA

VALI PATEL

Will you calm the fuck down! you

VALI still trying to deflect, objects as one of her shoes

hits him on the head

VALI PATEL

RIZ AHMED

Interesting theory… i wonder if

that would work on the guys?

ASIF TABAT

Piss off !!

RIZ AHMED

Okay.. so what’re we doing?

VALI PATEL

LISA looks at her watch

LISA FISHER

Hmm i suppose i could spare a

She invites him in and closes the door behind him, he grabs

her and pins her against the wall kissing her passionately.

He picks her up and carries her upstairs

wait until he comes outside and

grab him?

ASIF TABAT

Well ive asked my cousin to keep an

RIZ AHMED

What the fuck? Why don’t you just

tell your cousin to get him

outside..

ASIF TABAT

What? hows he going to do that you

VALI luck]]

VALI sighs, looks at himself in the rear view mirror

adjusting his hair before exiting the car.

Approaching the door he hears the television blaring, he

knocks on the door and waits.

The door opens, he is greeted by an elderly woman dressed in

a scarf

ELDERLY WOMAN

(In Gujarati) Come in son

VALI forces a smile and enters the house, dated wallpaper

lining the walls he enters a narrow corridor and takes his

shoes off adding to the pile already on the floor.

The elderly woman waits as he removes his shoes and motions

him into the front room.

ELDERLY WOMAN

(In Gujarati)Have a seat son,

I’ll call her down.

VALI Stands in the narrow passage, a room and a set of

stairs to the left of him, and a doorway to the back room

directly in front of him

He enters the front room. the source of all the noise. A

large elderly Asian man in an armchair is seated and

watching an Asian drama.

Without getting up or making any form of eye contact, he

lifts a hand and points to the adjacent sofa

ELDERLY MAN

Come in, sit

VALI takes a seat, he looks across looking at the elderly

man and how engrossed he is in the drama

The ELDERLY WOMAN comes into the room stands by the door and

beckons VALI to come to the other room

ELDERLY WOMAN

(In Gujarati) Come son, shes

in the other room

VALI walks to the back room, he sees a frumpy Asian girls

dressed in green with glasses on. A quick look of

disappointment flashing across his face before regaining his

composure. Sitting on an armchair. VALI walks into the room

and sits on the sofa opposite.

The elderly woman leaves the room.

SHEREEN

Hi, I’m Shereen..

INT. THE CAR – RIZ AND ASIF

RIZ and ASIF are in the car on the way to the college. Riz

driving, Asif in the passengers seat rolling up.

RIZ AHMED

You better not be dropping all that

crap in my car, that stuff stinks

ASIF TABAT

Yeah yeah, drive in a straight line

and you’ve got nothing to worry

about

RIZ swerves hard, making ASIF drop some of his tobacco on

the floor

ASIF TABAT

You nob!

RIZ AHMED

There was a cat on the road!

ASIF TABAT

As close to pussy as you’re going

to get !

RIZ AHMED

Ha ha! What’re we doing anyway? who

is this guy?

ASIF TABAT

I don’t know? But he did sound

pissed, and we know that doesn’t

happen very often

RIZ AHMED

What you mean? of course it does,

remember what he did to that dealer

ASIF TABAT

On the corner of Gilnow gardens…

RIZ AHMED

That’s the one, i actually felt

sorry for him

ASIF TABAT

You?! Feel sorry for someone?

please ! I’ve know some cold

hearted fucks in my time and let me

tell you.. you’re up there mate

RIZ AHMED

Piss off..

Asif Laughs

RIZ AHMED

So.. we know hes pissed VAL off

royally, so hes either fucked about

with one of his sisters or..

ASIF TABAT

Is distributing things he shouldn’t

be doing..

RIZ AHMED

Well not on our turf anyway!

INT. THE TEA PARTY SCENE 2

VALI sits there with a cup of tea and samosas before him,

the samosa glistening in the dim light dripping with cooking

oil

VALI PATEL

So you’re a legal assistant?

SHEREEN

Yeah, i tend to prep the documents

and liaise with the solicitors to

ensure all is prepped and ready for

their relevant cases.

VALI PATEL

I see…

VALI adds sugar to his tea and gives it a slow stir

VALI PATEL

So you enjoy your job?

SHEREEN

Yes.. very much so, it allows me a

view of the various different types

of people and the cases associated

with those people

VALI PATEL

Ahh that’s lovely.. so potentially,

i take it you see yourself taking

the relevant legal exams and

becoming a solicitor in the long

run?

SHEREEN

That’s correct..

VALI takes a sip of his tea and tries to mask his disgust on

its taste.

SHEREEN

So tell me about you, what are you

looking for in a potential partner?

VALI PATEL

Well someone moderately religious,

kind, outgoing..

SHEREEN

What do you do? Work wise?

VALI PATEL

Well i manage the family business.

SHEREEN

The shop?

VALI PATEL

The factory… So what are you

looking for in a partner?

SHEREEN

Someone religious, some one who

will look after me and our kids…

some one who can support me

financially

VALI PATEL

Financially? In what way?

SHEREEN hesitates

SHEREEN

Just.. someone with a good job,

that can cater and look after the

needs of his wife and children?

VALI PATEL

Wouldn’t love be enough?

SHEREEN

What do you mean?

VALI PATEL

The love between a husband and

wife? Wouldn’t that be enough to

cater to the families needs

SHEREEN

Love wouldn’t keep a roof over my

head and feed my children

VALI puts his cup down and smiles

VALI PATEL

I’m sure love would find a way?

SHEREEN a little taken aback

VALI PATEL

So basically, what you’ve told me

so far.. is you want to become a

solicitor, yet you have no

intention of supporting yourself.

VALI PATEL (cont’d)

But rather be looked after, catered

to.. you… and these children…

where love may or may not exist?

But the desire to procreate and

live your life as a housewife for

the rest of your days? does that

about sum it up?

SHEREEN

…No.. i think you’ve

misunderstood me.. Love is

important to me. But security is

more of an importance for me..

VALI PATEL

I understand… so let me ask you

this.. you meet this man, this man

who gives you all the security you

desire as well as the children you

speak of.. You have it all but lack

the love aspect, no attraction or

love? What then? Do you give up on

love and live the rest of your life

as husband and wife by label alone?

SHEREEN

I…

VALI PATEL

Its ok .. take your time..

VALI sits back, absent mindedly grabbing the cup of tea and

taking another sip, and letting out a cough.

Turf – Chapter 4

TURF

CHAPTER 4

INT. THE CROSSOVER – PUB

Late afternoon, the pub is old and worn on the outside and

older on the inside. Filled with only a few loyal, regular

customers. A barman and barmaid are serving drinks.

The camera sees an old ford pull up, an elderly gentleman

dressed in tweed and cap enters the pub. A couple of rolled

up newspapers under his arm, entering the pub he greets the

barman and takes a seat. Placing the papers down the barman

takes the papers in exchange for a pint.

LARRY SMITH

see.

GREGG STEENE

Ahh you know, ticking over.

LARRY takes a sip of his pint

LARRY SMITH

Anyone else here?

GREGG STEENE

In the back

LARRY SMITH

Well.. what’re we waiting for?

LARRY grabs his pint and makes his way to the back of the

pub. Gregg nods to the barmaid grabs the papers and follows

LARRY.

The back room, a large room cladded out with leather chairs,

A large snooker table, darts board, TV. A large union jack

flag on one of the walls.

Empty pint glasses and beer bottles strewn in and amongst

the furniture and floor

LARRY SMITH

Afternoon lads..

LEE DRIVER

Larry! Its about time you got your

old ass through the door

TONY WEBB

Shut the fuck up LEE, LARRY you got

the stuff

GREGG STEENE

Its here.

Gregg removes a large brown package which he tears open to

reveal a large bag of pills and a small amount of cocaine

TONY WEBB

The fuck Larry?? That it??

Larry takes a seat in one of the leather armchairs, a

chessboard with black and brown pieces on the table next to

him

LARRY SMITH

Gimme a break, its all i could get!

you know how hard it is to get this

shit nowadays..

TONY WEBB

Its a fucking joke!

LARRY SMITH

Will you relax! we’ll just lace and

cut it with some other shit.. the

addicts wont know the difference as

long as they get their kick

LEE DRIVER

Hehe! that’s true ..

TONY WEBB

I don’t give a fuck as long as we

get paid

LARRY SMITH

The coke! isn’t even selling that

well.. i mean we’re selling yeah..

but the kids are going crazy for

the E.

LEE DRIVER

College and university kids

especially!

TONY WEBB

Fucking kids! is this what we’ve

come to! We use to be bigger than

this..

GREGG STEENE

Not this shit again.. give it a

rest..

TONY WEBB

Give it a rest?! the fucking pakis

are out there wheeling dealing

taking OUR profit! They’re fucking

driving around in sports cars for

fuck sakes!

Tony throws ans smashes his beer bottle against the wall

Gregg stands up, Larry gestures to him to sit back down.

LARRY SMITH

Hes right.. its been too long.

Since your brother went inside Tony

we more or less lost everything. We

need to take it back

GREGG STEENE

Take it back? have you seen the

numbers they have! there’s the

pakis for a start then you’ve got

the Indians! We decide to take a

stand, what do you think is going

to happen? you think the Indians

are gonna sit idly by while we

march all over the pakis? Who’s

side do you think they’ll take?

LEE DRIVER

Why not ours? They hate the pakis

as much as we do ?

TONY WEBB

have you seen the colour of your

skin?! you dumb fuck ?

LARRY SMITH

Now.. now.. your both right that’s

why

Larry begins to shuffle the pieces on the chess board

LARRY SMITH

we need to start a little in house

war.. get the two to have a little

falling out

GREGG STEENE

Yeah.. and then what?

LARRY SMITH

well while theyre busy with their

little war.. we’ll start sowing our

seeds

TONY WEBB

And when its over.. we’ll destroy

whoevers left standing and take it

all

LARRY SMITH

To the victor go the spoils..

Larry uses the Knight on the board to knock over the pawns

and place the piece in checkmate

** End of Chapter 4**

Memories of Murder

It was never meant to be this way…

I was never meant to be… This.

Hopes , dreams, promises I made to myself now all gone to the wind, turned to Shit and remained what they were when they were concieved, just dreams.

Sitting here in what I know is a temporary silence, well… up until he regains conciousness anyway.

I think back on the path taken, do different choices really determine your outcome, my present?

Or is it all just fate?

I look up at him dangling from the ceiling , his limbs limp and lifeless, you could mistake him for dead. Another lifeless corpse to add to my list of dead . Blood oozing out his mouth , dripping down his bruised chest and soaking his jeans.

I look closely focusing on his chest, still moving, still life in the young snitch yet.

See I wasnt a grade A student by any means, but I wasnt the worst, I did as I was told , I did my homework, I was always punctual and I never missed a day. Be it at school, college ,university or work for that matter.

But one thing I did have was a yearning, a yearning to be something ,be someone not the typical person working a 9-5 shit show of a job doing the same thing day in day out.

Dealing with assholes and upper management with agendas of their own. I didn’t want to be a pawn, not his, not theirs.

I had my own agenda, I was going to play the game my way, adopting my own rules, doing what needed to be done to achieve my goal…

Would I have followed this path and left this trail of blood and destruction if I knew what I was going to become?

The answer, even though I hate to admit it , would probably still be a resounding yes. The car, the drugs, the money, are just a by product , a fringe benefit of what Ive really achieved, what I’ve pined and worked hard for … Respect.

The respect of three groups, families, all wanting what I have. All just waiting for me to slip up so they can snatch and conquer every ounce of what I’ve become. It hasn’t been easy, nor have the sacrifices I’ve had to make.

Anyone who boasts about how easy it is to take a life, will have never taken one. Will never have seen the light extinguish from their eyes, will have never experienced the desperate struggling and gasping for air as you slowly wrap and squeeze their necks with your bare hands.

Watching them in shock, a victim of your betrayal as you bury the years of friendship, laughs and secrets deep to fulfill what you’ve decided to do . All due to one mistake, a mistake made by your best friend, your best man, your life long ‘friend’ who could cost you your livelihood and your freedom…

Fuck, let’s not go there .

Looking around the dark and dingy warehouse. Seeping damp and water logged walls giving the room it’s acrid Smell, puddles of dirty water and grime dotted across the large open area, the men looking as uncomfortable as ever.

All stood and poised ready for their next command, all trying to guess this poor fucks fate. while I sit here deliberaiting my existence and waiting for him to wake.

I know what I’ve become , I know I’m pass the point of no return. I know somewhere down the line, I’ll be right where he is, stripped to the bare essentials covered in blood , piss and sweat.

Beaten to an inch of my life for sport,or information. In my case I’ll be guessing sport, a nice meaty puchbag, punched, kicked and beaten for some obsecure information or code for some safe.

Do I feel sorry for him? Should I show him some mercy that may someday be shown upon me if ever I’m in the same position?

As tempting as it is, I can’t afford to look weak in front of the men. ‘The boss let him go , he’s gone soft, weak, pussy…’ Are all the things that will probably be said, then passed on from person to person finally reaching the competition. And we know what that’ll breed, a little confidence, which breeds hope.

Now hope, no matter how small, is dangerous. Especially in this business , hope has toppled families and promoted wealth and that’s the last thing I need.

“Wake him up” I say to no one in particular, yet a few now jump to attention grabbing a bucket of dirty water and throwing it over him. Jolting him awake , he looks shocked, confused until he realises where he is.

Wait for it… There it is , fear. Acknowledgment in the first instance swiftly led by fear.

Then it starts again, the pleading, whimpering, begging. All part and parcel of what this is, I give a nod to the closest man to him . He begins to question him yet again, I look over at one my oldest foot soldiers making eye contact he knows what I want .

See torture in all its forms, is cruel, horrifying and unjust . But it does get the job done . Pulling the pistol from his holster he promptly shoots him just under his kneecap .

There’s a few gasps in the room , a few new recruits by the looks and sounds of it all. Now this I can use. Sooner or later, the confessions come pouring out. No one lasts too long, there will always be that one thing which will break you .

As the confessions end , the whimpering begins. Now I have to make a choice, show mercy or show consequence.

Looking at him now drenched in blood, he can’t be much older than 23 years old. Which makes it all the more dificult, they look to me to make a decision, to be the bastard they know or be this man’s saviour.

I look at each of them, most afraid to make eye contact. I look to one of the youngest , a new recruit wanting to earn his stripes, to be part of us. He looks slightly younger than our friend hanging from the ceiling, I call him to me , he looks nervous and jittery. I put my arm around him and take him to the snitch , I don’t say a word. I just hold my other arm out,Palm open, where a pistol is firmly placed in my hand.

I look to the young recruit, look at the whimpering, pleading being thrashing in his chains. I hand the rookie the gun, with a simple ” Be who you were always meant to be…”
